On September 26, 1785, William Herschel discovered a trio of nebulae along the Pegasus-Pisces border, which he recorded as II 439, II 440, and III 435. John Louis Emil Dreyer listed these three objects in his New General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (published in 1888) as NGC 7619, NGC 7626, and NGC 7623.
