We are accustomed to reading stories of people who were stuck at school or in an office and dreamed of sailing the seven seas, and through great determination manage to make their dreams come true. It's part of the romantic narrative of seagoing life. For the authors of two new books, it was the other way around. They lived on boats as children and sailed the ocean blue-one halfway around the world and the other down the coasts of Mexico and Central America-but spent most of their time dreaming of being on land. They lived the dream but longed for a "normal" childhood. Both books ask big questions about the choices parents make for their children, not just on boats but in home schooling-and by extension life in general.
