DESPITE STIFF competition from other European-based contenders, Sikorsky remains optimistic about the S-70M Black Hawk's chances in the UK's New Medium Helicopter (NMH) programme, which calls for the acquisition of 44 helicopters to replace four legacy rotorcraft fleets across the UK Armed Forces. While giving a tour of the S-70 on display to Al, a Lockheed Martin representative highlighted the platform's low footprint and high survivability. At the same time, he also lent credit to the Black Hawk family's success, noting that the 5,000th example would soon be delivered. He also mentioned the easy maintainability of the S-70M in the field, with minimal crews and no special equipment (such as ladders) needed to aid in making repairs and conducting checks.
