AbstractBedsoniae recovered from patients with Reiter's syndrome cause arthritis in 100% of rabbits inoculated with an adequate concentration of organisms. Intraarticular bedsonial inoculation results in ocular infection and involvement of other joints in some rabbits. Early adequate tetracycline or penicillin therapy can prevent or reverse the arthritis. In rabbits with chronic arthritis, tetracycline therapy eliminated the bedsoniae but did not affect the course of the disease.
