Three cases of burns in pregnant women are presented along with a brief review of the findings of other authors on this subject. From the limited knowledge presently at hand, it appears that premature labor is a hazard in second-and-third degree burns involving over 30% of the body surface. The synthesis and release of prostaglandin E2from the injured skin is postulated as the cause of the early uterine contractions. Further investigation is needed to substantiate this theory.
