One of the characteristics of a downturn in the marine geophysical services market is the discernible decline in the launch of step change innovations, whether or not they turn out to justify the initial hype. On first reflection this seems somewhat surprising for a business normally characterised by being technologically driven. In other words, seismic service companies, particularly the larger ones, are constantly on the look-out for ways of differentiating themselves from their competitors in terms of the technology solutions they offer.
