It is a privilege and an honour that Pablo and I have been appointed as Editors-in-Chief of Construction Management and Economics (CM&E), taking over from Professor Paul Chan, whose tenure as Editor-in-Chief has seen the journal growing from strength to strength (see Journal Metrics). We have big shoes to fill. As CM&E has recently celebrated its 40th year of publication, we have been reflecting on how the journal has evolved and adapted purposefully through the way it engages with the CM community to become the leading international, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal in the field. Indeed, going through the inaugural editorial of each previous Editors (Bennett 1983; Bon and Hughes 1992; Leiringer and Dainty 2017; Chan 2020) has provided insights into CM&E's journey from its inception to where it is now, and two overarching aims run through in all of them-first, to maintain the relevance of the journal in advancing core knowledge in the field and, second, to publish impactful, high quality papers that promote the research-practice agenda.
