Shrawley Wood overlooks the River Severn, 11 km to the north of Worcester. It is a large (about 150ha) ancient wood dominated by small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata), long famous among naturalists for the richness of its fungi. For centuries it was treated as coppice-with-standards yielding an astonishing variety of products for use in the local and regional economy, but conifer.
