It is widely acknowledged that current subsea well intervention methods are a necessary but time-consuming and costly activity, with rig costs running at up to $1 million a day. There are approximately 4000 oil and gas producing subsea wells across the globe and this number is ever increasing. Indonesia, China and Malaysia are continuing to invest heavily in deepwater facilities and it is estimated that between 2008-2012, Asia will account for 12% of the $38.2 billion global capex on deepwater subsea well expenditure.
