Technical Textiles is a keyword in this world of innovation, modernization, infrastructure development, fishnets, chemical industry, automotive industry, medical application, irrigation, agriculture, aerospace, tents, awning and may be many more in the tunnel of application development. The term is used mostly in non-conventional traditional textiles. In general, so far it has been termed as "Industrial Textiles". It is envisaged that from the year 2005, when trade barriers between the countries comes into effect, India can be prepared to be indigenous and self sufficient by way of production of technical yarns as well as technical textiles. At present, the Indian technical yarn industry is restricted only to manufacture yarn for conveyor belts, v-belts, fishnets, sewing threads, tyre cord seatbelts, luggage fabric etc. The application of technical yarn/technical textiles is more for performance than decorative or appeal.
