"The village of Winkleigh, which is in the middle of rural Devon in southwestern England, is an unlikely place to find a major boat project," Nic wrote in another dispatch. "It's 20 miles from here to the Bristol Channel in one direction, and 30 miles to the English Channel in the other. Yet, tucked away behind the curiously named Airfield Garage, under a simple tarpaulin shed, is one of the last Class One smacks still in existence: the 58' BRITANNIA. The former fishing boat is being restored by Sam and Vicki Samuels, who nurtured her for 23 years, from 1973 to '96, and then bought her back in 2014 after she fell on hard times. They are now nearing the end of their second restoration-the ultimate labor of love.
