On August 1, at 6:05 pm the bridge carrying Interstate 35 W over the Mississippi near downtown Minneapolis collapsed, killing 13 people as of press time. As investigators continue to sift through the debris to determine the cause of the tragedy, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is implementing an accelerated plan to construct a new bridge in its place.
