Trafalgar House's metals engineering company, Davy International, has signed a conditional contract with Thai Special Steel Industries (TSSI) to build a steel plant at a site near Rayong, where TSSI is currently installing a wire rod mill. The plant's products will mainly be directed at the domestic Thai market, which is a significant steel importer. The contract is for the turnkey supply of an iron-making facility with a blast furnace to produce 2.75 mtpa of liquid iron and a coke battery which will produce 1.1 mtpa of blast furnace coke with a by-products plant. This will be a basic oxygen steel plant with billet casters, producing 2 mtpa of products, and a 1 mtpa slab caster. The steel plant will be the first integrated one of its kind in Thailand using the blast furnace and oxygen steelmaking process. It will be located at a site near Rayong, where TSSI is already installing a wire rod mill.
