A critical analysis of trends in the reduction of the population of Russia under the influence of the birthrate, mortality, and migration of the population, and the deterioration of its age composition is provided. The forecasted age shifts in the formation of the labor force and regional differentiation of the prospects for demographic development are considered. A hypothesis is put forward about the need to use the compensating role of the migration increase in the population and conduct an active migration policy that ensures the growth of the resident population to meet the demand for labor in the labor market.
