The concentrations in plasma of progesterone, of unconjugated cstradiol-17β, and of unconjugated polar estrogens (estriol plus other C15 or C16 substituted estrogens such as estetrol) have been studied during the last 4 weeks of pregnancy in 10 women. The spread of values from subject to subject and from time to time has been calculated. The levels of unconjugated estradiol-17β were least variable, and from this point of view assays of this steroid are recommended as a measure of fetoplacental function.
