摘要

The global demand to reduce CO_2 emissions requires a big effort from the shipping industry. Transportation contributes significantly not only to greenhouse gas emissions but also generates high levels of airborne pollutants and noise pollution. Governments across the globe are imposing increasingly more stringent regulations on emissions in harbors and many areas, particularly in the Mediterranean sea, are being designated as protected areas, vessels will need to switch to hybrid-electric propulsion with the capability to operate in full electric mode when entering harbors or in proximity to protected areas.
