A recent article (Flight Line, Aeroplane January 2019) mentioned the Boeing 707 of Pan Am which landed at Northolt on 25 October 1960, having mistaken it for Heathrow. I was in the control tower at the time and suddenly one of the controllers said, "What is that on the approach?" We all watched an immaculate approach and landing with some rather heavy braking, and the 707 came to a halt with a reasonable amount of runway to spare. It was almost as if there was a large question mark appearing from the cockpit area...
