The month opens with a pretty, nakedeye sight in the predawn. There, hanging above the eastern horizon, you'll find the waning crescent Moon near the Pleiades and Hyades clusters in Taurus. The Moon is roughly 4?° from the Pleiades and nearly 10° from Aldebaran. The lunar crescent also forms an appealing triangle with the bright stars Betelgeuse, in Orion, and Capella, in Auriga. The scene is most attractive at around 5 a.m. local daylight time just before morning twilight starts to seriously interfere with the view. And if you miss out this time, the Moon passes through the area once again at the end of the month.
