Even by the standards of the airline industry, few companies have had as many highs and lows as Northwest Airlines. Non-Stop is the first complete history of the challenges Northwest confronted from its humble beginnings flying the mail from Minneapolis-St Paul to Chicago, to the airline's disappearance into Delta Air Lines in 2010. Non-Stop begins with a meeting in St Paul, Minnesota, in 1863 between a local ballooning pioneer and Ferdinand von Zeppelin, which sparked Zeppelin's interest in lighter-than-air craft. The next few pages summarize the development of aviation in the upper Midwest before Northwest's founding in 1926.
