Exotic leather is growing in importance and offers potential for use in apparel, accessoires, and interior products. The purpose of this project was to explore ways to increaes domestic market demand for finished products using exotic leather. Industry professionals, interior designers, consumers, and retailers were surveyed to determine their attitudes, opinions, product knowledge, and intent to pruchase exotic leather apparel or interior products for themselves, their clients, or their customers. To determine feasibility of production and to stimulate interrest, apparel and interior products traditionally not made with exotic leather were designed, and selected prototypes were fabricated. Findings reveal the existence of a viable, potentially lucrative domestic market for apparel, accessories, and interior products made with exotic leather. Results could be used by apparel producers, interior products suppliers, and eductors in expanding the exotic leather products market and helping designers and their clients to understand how best to use and care for the products.
