Cleanox 352 is a pickling system free of nitric acid, which has been developed for stainless steel applications, such as the pickling of wire and rod. Initially developed by Italy-based ITB Srl, which Novamax acquired last year (Wire Industry, May 1995, p 252) the system is claimed to be environmentally cleaner than tradition pickling systems. This is primarily because it removes the need to deal with the purifying of nitrogen acids in the air or the nitrite and nitrate ions in waste liquids. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, Cleanox 352 is also said by Novamax to produce results "at least as good and in some cases better than those from traditional nitric/ hydrofluoric acid treatment".
