Kazakhstan is ramping up shipments of crude oil across the Caspian Sea and into the BP-operated Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan(BTC)pipeline,as it steps up efforts to reduce its dependence on Russia as a transit route for its oil exports. The Central Asian country has recently been producing around 2 million barrels per day of crude oil and condensate. For close to 20 years,it has exported most of its oil via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium(CPC)pipeline that runs from the giant Tengizoilfi eld to Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. But Russia's war in Ukraine, now well into its second year, has prompted the Kazakh government to become less dependent on theCPC line and seek alternative long-term transportation options.
