This compact book features in-flight color photos taken by enthusiastic individuals (including the book's author and publisher, Henry Tenby, as well as several other names familiar in Airways), supplemented by some manufacturer- (mostly Douglas) and airline-sponsored (principally CP Air) air-to-air photography. Thus, besides the mainline equipment from the Sixties through the Nineties, there are classics including the Curtiss C-46 Commando, Douglas DC-3, DC-4, DC-6, DC-7, Lockheed Constellation and Electra plus the L-100 Hercules, Martin 404, Convair-Liner (in various forms), Bristol Britannia, Vickers Viscount and Vanguard, and a variety of 'bush' types.Captions are extensive and informative, often including details of the photography session such as location and crew names, chase 'plane, as well as revealing how the shot was captured. Frequently, the process was complicated, time-consuming, and expensive for the photographers concerned, and remember that all these images were derived from color slide film exposed by 'steam' cameras, using manual focus and thoughtful settings-a far cry from today's digital wonders. The results of these efforts are remarkable, and their portrait value is enhanced by the commentary that will also be of value to aspiring aviation photographers.
