For more than four decades, Sikorsky S-61N helicopters have been a familiar sight in the skies over North America, Greenland [Gronland] (Airways, May/Jun 1997 & November 2003), and Europe; in the latter case mainly on North Sea oil exploration support work and scheduled passenger service between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly, now the longest-running scheduled rotary-wing service anywhere in the world (Airways, August 1998). Another long-term S-61 operator can be found on the southern tip of Africa, where CHC Helicopters and its predecessors have operated a ship supply service for nearly 40 years.
