Subject to regulatory approvals, the acquisition of Tiger will give Virgin immediate access to the low-cost market as a means to compete head-on with Qantas's Jetstar. Tiger's fleet of 11 Airbus A320s will be more than tripled to 35 in the next five years as Virgin Australia and joint shareholder Singapore Airlines deploy the aircraft across an expanded network as a standalone entity with its own certificate, identity, and board of directors.
