Lasertron, the manufacturer of semi-conductor lasers and detector components for use in fibre-based communications systems, has a new president and a new chairman, in addition to having appointed two senior staff engineers. D Westervelt Davis, formerly vice president and chief operating officer of the USA-based company, is its new president. A company statement says of the appointment: "The promotion recognises Davis's record of success in managing the major functions of Lasertron since his joining in November of 1994." Dr J Jim Hsieh, the former president and one of the company's original founders, assumes the position of chairman.
