AbstractTreatment of excised bean root tissue with MCPA and MCPB resulted in a reduced uptake and incorporation of32P into ATP accompanied by enhanced or reduced respiration. In all cases MCPB was found to be more toxic than MCPA. These results are explained on the basis that ATP is the energy source for phosphate uptake and that a reduction in ATP synthesis with MCPA and MCPB results in lowered phosphate uptake.
