Our trip on 16 September 2022 took us south of the border, to Kyloe Woods in Northumberland, the day jointly hosted by the Continuous Cover Forestry Group, the RSFS and the RFS. The visit started with an overview of the woodland by forest manager IanRobinson and his team from Scottish Woodlands.To keep a high proportion of the large mature conifers, particularly the specimen treesTo facilitate natural regeneration (deer numbers are managed to achieve this, around 50 deer being removed per year)To maintain species mixtures appropriate for red squirrel conservation (for which the estate receives countryside stewardship payments).
