Effective 16 December, all duties on imported ammonia coming into the EU were removed. This applies to ammonia from all origins except Russia and Belarus where the current duty of 5.5% will remain. According to the new EU regulation published on 16 December in the Official Journal, the suspension of duties will remain in place until 16 June 2023. The publication states the following: “The Union market for certain nitrogen fertilizer inputs depends considerably on imports from third countries. In 2021, the Union imported 2,9 million tonnes of ammonia and 4,7 million tonnes of urea to produce nitrogen fertilizers. The prices for those products have increased substantially in 2021 and have further risen during the current year.
