The Pennsylvania Department of Aviation has issued a license for the Presque Isle Seaplane Base on Lake Erie just offshore from downtown Erie, Pennsylvania. It is the first new aviation facility licensed in the state in 20 years, according to Don Williams, an SPA Field Director in Pennsylvania who helped spearhead the effort. There are two landing lanes: 6L/24R is north of Presque Isle in Lake Erie, and 6R/24L is in Presque Isle Bay between the island and the shoreline. When landing to the east seaplanes should fly a left downwind; when landing to the west fly a right downwind. Elevation on the bay is 572 feet MSL. Pattern altitude is 1,600 feet MSL.
