AbstractA man with tophaceous gout was treated by hemodialysis on three occasions, starting 24 hours after the onset of an acute attack of arthritis. His plasma uric acid was reduced to sub‐normal levels for periods up to 8 hours and more than 8 Gm. of uric acid was removed. The course of the acute attack was uninfluenced by hemodialysis, suggesting that acute attacks of gout are not maintained by any dialyzable metabolit
