摘要

Abstract Electrode reaction and electrocatalytic kinetics of N-hydroxynaphthaleneimide (NHNI) as a redox mediator for benzyl alcohol oxidation in acetonitrile were examined by cyclic voltammetry and rotating disk electrode voltammetry. Cyclic voltammograms of NHNI in acetonitrile showed an increase in chemical reversibility with the addition of lutidine as a base, as the irreversible oxidation peak shifted to a negative potential and a reduction peak appeared. Coexistence of benzyl alcohol in addition to the base increased the oxidation current, confirming the catalytic reaction. The quantitative analysis of the electrocatalytic reaction was conducted, and the second-order rate constant for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol was estimated.Graphical abstract
