摘要

Variability in rainfall has historically been a major cause of food insecurity in the country. Agriculture, especially crop production, is heavily dependent on local climatic conditions. The major contribution towards agricultural production in the state of Andhra Pradesh (India) is from its coastal regions. The study attempts to assess the impact of climate variability that strongly influences crop production in the coastal regions of the state. The present study deals with the Krishna-Godavari agro-climatic zone, covers districts of West Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, parts of Prakasam and East Godavari in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The monthly and seasonal rainfall data was collected and analyzed for 168 rain gauge stations in the zone. Various statistical methods like drought correlation analysis, cluster analysis, bio-economic modelling has been used to study the crop productivity in the zone. The results have shown severe and extreme drought conditions in districts of East Godavari (1984), Guntur (1984, 2002), Krishna (1984, 1993, 2002) and Prakasam (1984, 1999, 2002, 2004). The bio-economic model shows high variation between climatic variables, fertilizers, human labour hour on agricultural production that affects the crops of paddy, maize in Prakasam district, chillies, groundnut in West Godavari district and sugarcane in Krishna district.
