摘要

A major milestone in the 75-year history of the nuclear industry was the construction of a nuclear power plant for the first Soviet nuclear submarine. This article, based on the report presented at the General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences on December 8, 2020, focuses on the role of science in solving this new for that time, complex, multifaceted problem. It is emphasized that collaboration between the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Navy has always resulted in effective solutions to problems of developing all types of naval forces, most intensively, submarine forces. The close interaction between scientific structures and the Navy became fully-fledged in the era of the scientific and technological revolution, which began and developed rapidly in the period characterized by confrontation between two opposing military-political blocs-the Soviet Union and the United States.
