Technical communication is the primary language for engineers. Our profession requires communicating our ideas, concepts, designs, comments, criticisms, feedbacks, and evaluations on a daily basis. We need to master this basic skill, which is crucial to a successful engineering career. Effective technical communication requires accurately transmitting your ideas and thoughts to another person or a group. When we think of a technical communication, we invariably think of an upcoming technical paper, proposal, or presentation. Although these activities represent perhaps the most important visible end results, effective communication skills help us in our daily interactions through discussions with co-workers, supervisors, employees, advisors, customers and technical peers. By understanding the essentials of effective technical communication, we will be able to work in an efficient environment, where what is said or written is the same as what is being understood.
