Have you ever pre-diagnosed someone with psychogemc nonepileptic seizures (PNES) before they even received testing? This can manifest as a conscious or unconscious bias; based on numerous factors including past medical history and clinical manifestation of event. We will dive into the ethical component of pre-diagnosing patients, as well as how we treat those patients once they receive a PNES diagnosis. We will discuss case presentations that were assumed to be PNES but after testing, confirmed to be epileptic. We will discuss the percentage of patients that live with both epileptic and nonepileptic seizures, delving into the complexity of the human brain. Lastly, we will discuss the advancements made in communicating and treating patients diagnosed with PNES.
