Confusion stems from the multiple interpretations of RNP in approaches. Unfortunately, the acronym "RNP" has three meanings. To understand, we need to review Performance Based Navigation (PBN). PBN focuses on what the equipment can do, not the specific type of equipment. These capabilities are reflected in specifications or technical standards that the equipment needs to meet. Within PBN there are two specifications: RNP and RNAV.
