To carry out a build properly you need to back it up with good research, often from online sources these days, but there's still plenty of scope for books to help. In this case I have to take my hat off to a volume referred to in an online forum. It has the unassuming title of The Airman in the Royal Air Force, published in 1967. On page 25 it has an illustration of a sleek aircraft, painted in anti-flash white with RAF roundels, in a steep climb. Yes, you've guessed it reader, the plane is an F-111... and the book is a Ladybird Easy Reader - Ladybird really had their ear to the political ground! With that encouragement I was able to set about building an F-111K, the aircraft meant to fill the boots left vacant by the cancelled TSR.2.
