摘要

Recently, the efficient upgrading of abundant and cheap substances (H_2O,CO_2, N_2, and NO_xn) into valuable products by reduction and/or hydrogenationhas attracted much attention. However, the traditional transformationprocesses of these oxidants generally suffer high-energy input, complicatedreactors, and rigorous reaction conditions due to their high thermodynamicstability and kinetic inertness. Recently, electrocatalytic reduction reactions(ERRs) for upgrading low-grade substances have been perceived as promisingfor sustainable energy conversion due to the ambient condition, highselectivity, and atom economic feasibility. In this review, value-added fuelsand chemicals generation from low-cost oxidants ERRs are systematicallysummarized. Specifically, H_2 generation from ERR is introduced from waterand seawater electrolysis; carbon-containing compound generation from electrocatalyticCO_x reduction is classified into C_1, and C_2 and/or C~(2+) acquisition;valuable NH_3 production is divided into nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR)and NO_xn species reduction reaction (NoxnRR); and other valuable chemicalsgeneration from multi-substance reduction to C-C bonds and C-N bondsare also reviewed. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overviewof high-valued product generation from ERRs. Besides, an in-depth understandingof such ERRs to valuable products has been presented, and currentchallenges and further prospects are also proposed.
