UPMC analyzed the delivery of neurodiagnostic services across the system. They found it is fractured and quality is not standardized. Goals of the integration: To build upon the current quality neurodiagnostics model, standardize the delivery platform, and improve the experience for the frontline staff, which is key to the labs' success. Improving the experience for the front-line staff by changing the mentality of "job" to "career", offering educational opportunities, such as promoting journal reviews for the staff, and offering smaller labs the support that they never had before. Most of the labs outside of the city are under every other service besides Neurodiagnostics. Offer Leadership opportunities! Encourage registration. Communication is key. Transparency is a must. Listen. Seek advice and build a partnership with hospital leadership from that facility. Get a good understanding of how things run and "suggest" new ideas but be open to adopting new ideas. Set goals and expectations. Treat them like adults and respect their practices. Ask for feedback. Standardization of health care procedures can result in improved effectiveness and safety of treatments. Standardization minimizes the risk of errors. In a nutshell, this job is hard, but worth every struggle.
