Essex County Council has approved a proposal to extract 6.5 million tonnes of sand and gravel from an extension to Bradwell quarry, near Braintree. The site comprised agricultural land and restoration to agriculture was progressing on other areas of the wider quarry site. Sand and gravel would be worked over 10 years in eight phases of around 750,000 tonnes. The target was the Kesgrave sands which varied between two and 13 metres in thickness across the area.
