Not everyone talks about clinical waste in the same way. The terms 'healthcare waste', 'clinical waste' and 'hazardous clinical waste' are interchange-abloe, while 'special waste' still exists in Scotland. Most commentators define 'healthcare waste' as the Chapter 18 EWC codes (which can include animal wastes), but this excludes some pharmaceutical waste (Chapter 07 codes), and x-ray and photographic wastes (Chapter 09 codes).
