An application to extend Fauld mine near Burton-on-Trent to extract three million tonnes of gypsum and anhydrite has been approved by Staffordshire County Council. The mine was an important source of gypsum and anhydrite rock and British Gypsum supplied essential minerals for cement-making. The mine had operated since the late 1940s and extended to 2,240 hectares of land in countryside to the west of Burtonon-Trent.
