Recycling in the cabin has taken on new meaning that goes beyond producing lighter-weight seats and removing single-use plastics (SUP) to looking at the full lifecycle of products-called circularity-that go into aircraft cabins from beginning to end.The term "circular economy" is an emerging concept in aviation that ICAO says has the potential to "reshape the whole supply chain from product design to end-of-life management."And environmentally conscious customers are watching.Delta Air Lines VP-sustainability Amelia DeLuca pointed out to an audience of OEMs, suppliers and airlines at the September Red Cabin Innovation Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, that four out of five North American consumers said they would stop using or buying products if they hurt the environment."So that is key to us. We're very rooted in the fact that consumers expect us to do something about that. We've got to walk our emissions down," DeLuca said. "No one airline is going to win this when it comes to sustainability; we're going to win it working together, both within our industry as well as beyond."
