Construction and industrial (C&I) waste makes up just under two-thirds of the UK's total waste production. It does not get the focus it perhaps deserves as much of the material is of limited interest to innovative recyclers. This is set to change as the role of resources in achieving net-zero targets has been recognised across all sectors. According to the Climate Change Committee (CCC), the construction sector contributed around 62 million tonnes of CO2e, or 14% of UK emissions, in 2020. In its latest report, the committee called for "increased resource efficiency and material substitution".
