SHIPPING heavyweight Idan Ofer has become a significant shareholder in US tanker owner International Seaways. EPS Ventures, an investment arm of Mr Ofer's Quantum Pacific Shipping, now owns 2.475m shares, representing 5.05%, according to a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The stake, which had to be reported as it passed the 5% threshold as per US disclosure rules, is thought to be worth in the region of $90m. Lloyd's List understands that the shares have been accumulated over time, as part of a portfolio of public shipping companies being pursued as investments.
