摘要

Dear Editor Clinical practitioners have an obligation to become lifelong learners, to meet the needs of ever-changing landscape of today’s health care (Ding et al. Citation2019). In view of this, many hospitals support formal courses of lifelong learning in postgraduate medical years as ‘Continuing Medical Education/Learning’ or ‘Continuous Professional Development.’ We at Gulf Medical University, with the introduction of the MD Curriculum in 2022, believe in inculcating a strong base of lifelong learning from the inception of training of medical students. Professional bodies such as the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) have identified Lifelong learning skills as a core competency in health professions (Eno et al. Citation2020). A dedicated ‘Medical Education: Lifelong Learning’ course that spans first year of the MD program, is being introduced in the curriculum. It consists of themes populated with generic skills e.g. communication skills, reflective writing, literature search, appreciative inquiry, time management, self-directed learning and concept mapping, etc. Sessions are carefully planned based on student-centered pedagogy. Each 2-hours interactive session starts with an overview, followed by small group activities related to the topic, e.g. applying time management and goal setting strategies in challenging scenarios, etc. Session culminates by each group presenting their work followed by constructive feedback from tutors and students.
