The newly discovered cyphelloid species Chromocyphella meloana is here described and illustrated based on specimens collected in continental France. Hypothetic reproductive isolation of this species is supported by the morpholological characteristics of fruit bodies, which initially develop as corticioid basidiomes, and mature into folded, torn structures producing ellipsoid brown rugose basidiospores. A combination of ITS, 28S rDNA and rpb2 sequences is used to classify the collection as a new species within the genus Chromocyphella. A key to the species of Chromocyphella is provided.
