Demand for mineral products in construction slowed in the third quarter of 2021 after strong sales during the spring and summer, according to the latest quarterly survey from the Mineral Products Association (MPA). The survey shows that volumes of primary aggregates and ready-mixed concrete were 6.7% lower in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the previous quarter, with asphalt down 4.3% and mortar down 3.7%. Producer feedback suggests the slowdown is the result of several factors, including pent-up demand for materials from lockdown starting to subside, and supply chain pinch points hampering construction projects.
