Woolinan of Delta, and Eddie Ri-ckenbacker of Eastern were synonymous with the companies they built. They were captains of their airlines, and the airlines were reflections of their personalities. One of those who built a company from scratch was Carleton Putnam, and his airline was called Chicago & Southern (C & S).
